Only outlaws will have crossbows

Written on March 21, 2005

South Africa has recently passed extremely restrictive gun laws that result in 60% or more of firearms applicants being refused a license. A recent amnesty program has netted 13,000 weapons, most of them non-functional firearms turned in by grandparents. No word on how many criminals have opted to surrender their weapons and give up a life of crime.

Crime is so bad in South Africa that many houses are protected by razor wire to deter intruders. The South African government knows that the real problem is the 40,000 hardcore criminals who use illegal firearms, not the homeowners who have to resort to the black market to protect their homes. Still, as all liberal socialists are wont to do, they punish the citizen instead of the criminal.

In response, there has been a huge boom in sales of swords, spears, machetes, and crossbows!

With no laws restricting their sale, it is up to the seller whether or not the buyer qualifies. No waiting period required.

This is the same country that less than seven years ago approved flamethrowers as an option for new cars! (dramatic demo video available)

I particularly loved the following:

With some homeowners worried about prosecution if they kill intruders, the crossbow is particularly popular because of its silence and the difficulty of tracing the firer from forensic evidence, he said.

This just goes to show what happens when a meddling government decides to side with criminals and interferes with it’s citizens right to self-defense. And make no mistake: refusing to allow citizens to arm themselves is a conscious act of siding with the criminal element, innocents be damned. And the government doesn’t care, because its socialist ideal of a nation of disarmed sheep trumps any notion of an innate right to life and self-defense. Recognizing such a right would require the powers-that-be to admit that individual rights are more important than their bizarre socialist ideas, especially when those ideas trample on the very life that sustains the nation.

How long before the citizens rise up and take their crossbows and battle axes to the streets and force the government to stop aiding and abetting criminals?

Many thanks to Rene
