Super-light blogging…

Written on May 25, 2005

I know, blogging has been really light lately. Time is at a premium right now, and I’m also trying to both upgrade this site to WordPress 1.5 and redesign it at the same time.

Ouch.

Plus, Reneé and I are keeping ourselves busy. This past Sunday we went to the San Marcos air show specifically to check out the Spitfire rumoured to be there. Sure enough, there was a Mk. IV there — with the elliptical wings, not the clipped-wing variant. This has to be the most beautiful and graceful plane ever created.

While there we happened to check out the hangar of the Central Texas Wing of the Confederate Air Force (we refuse to use their new, politically-correct name) and guess who we saw there? Tex Hill, one of the original Flying Tigers and the man played by John Wayne in the movie Flying Tigers, and Dick Cole, Doolittle’s copilot on the raid on Tokyo! Wow!

We bought a print and had Dick Cole sign it, and found out that Tex Hill and his wife live right here in San Antonio. We’ll probably buy Tex’s new book and a print here in the near future.

Talking to these two fine gentleman was an honor for both of us. Sadly, most people have probably never heard of them. Every 8th grade boy should have the chance to hear them come speak to their class.
